Bonjour! Let’s agree that we’ve all spent these past few days of Paris Fashion Week with the same daydream tormenting us: frolicking around the Eiffel Tower with a bottle of France’s finest rosé in one hand, a bouquet of fresh, blush-pink peonies from your French, model boyfriend who rides a Vespa in the other, and a humungous, chocolate croissant stuffed between your teeth, on your way to your next fashion show…* sigh * Maybe one day. Nevertheless—Paris fashion week is now in full swing.
Home to many top-dogs of the industry, Paris never fails to deliver a show that falls short of brilliance. We’re talking Chanel, Dior, Valentino, and eighteen more of the most elite houses in the business. It’s been three months since the last fashion week, and everyone is brimming with anticipation to see what the Spring 2016 collections will bless us with. Here’s your recap of some highlights from this week:
Chanel opened the week with a bang, as expected. Prim and proper Chanel dressed the runway in pale hues, balletic textures, and, of course, a fresh take on the staple Chanel dress suit.
Dior’s spring collection had a more sophisticated feel to it compared to the flowery youthfulness of Chanel. The collection featured structured, sharp, irregular silhouettes and darker tones of olive, navy, and black.
Bizarre and unorthodox, Margiela’s show reaffirmed their reputation of not ever playing by the rules. Eccentric, baggy fabric draped aimlessly over the models. The look of the collection was loose, drooping, and almost disorderly, yet it pulled off a “too cool” factor.
The theme of Valentino’s spring collection seemed to be historic—early 20th century. Almost every look was some form of long, flowing gown adorned with an ornate, golden, body harness. Golden serpents rested on the crowns of the models. The collection featured luxurious, jewel tones, and intricate embroidery.
New York Fashion Week is only two weeks away. Let’s see if the States can keep up with Paris’ avant-garde attitude from this past week.
