Kim K and Trump? A meeting that shocked social media.
It is no secret that Kim Kardashian was in the Oval Office with President Trump recently, since it spread through social media like wildfire. Other blogs, media officials, and of course- fans have wondered if this meeting was going to drastically change anything. Kim broke the silence and has openly spoken about her meeting with our new president.
Kim visited Trump to speak about a women named Alice Marie Johnson, a 63 year old great grandmother who is currently serving a life sentence in prison for a first time, non-violent drug offense. Unfortunately, serving such long sentences for non-violent drug offenses happen pretty often. There has been a push for justice for these inmates claiming that some drugs aren't a big enough reason to end someones life of freedom and limit their options for second chances. Johnson has been in prison for over 21 years now, and has not been offered parole. This case hit a nerve with Kim and she decided to take action towards it, explaining that Johnson deserved, “A second chance at life,” and has been working for months to get Johnson released. Kardashian didn’t tell reporters much about the meeting but simply that she believed Trump, “really spent the time to listen to our case that we were making for Alice,” and that he, “really understood.” Kim is hopeful this will turn out very positive in the end. Directly after their meeting, Trump tweeted a photograph of the two with the caption, “Great meeting with @KimKardashian today, talked about prison reform and sentencing.”
Kim and Trump weren't the only ones to reach out and make statements about this meeting, in a letter to Kim Kardashian, “I am so humbled by what you are doing and have already done on my behalf,” Johnson wrote. “There are no words strong enough to express my deep and heartfelt gratitude. Ms. Kardashian you are literally helping to save my life and restore me to my family.”
Where will the power of celebrity and president end? Will we see reform from this because of it's exposure in the media? We'll see.
