Ask any Florida State student what their favorite day of the week is; I’d be shocked if they said anything other than Friday. Not simply because of the enticing weekend to come, but for the festivities that begin swinging in motion right around 4:30pm— Happy Hour. You might find yourself pregaming with your best friends in your apartment, or at your go-to fraternity with your fave guys to hang with. Nonetheless, once you step into Pots, Standard, or Room 215 you KNOW you’re going to be sweating up a storm. Its just a given. So how does one avoid ruining their pin-straight hair, perfect highlight, and pastel colored outfit? Check out these three hacks to tackle on the heat that I have found work out perfectly:
I cannot stress ENOUGH the importance of this beauty tool. If you aren’t familiar with this type of product, your life is about to change. Setting spray simply does exactly what it sounds like— sets your makeup. It goes on feeling like water but will keep your mascara, eyeshadow, and even liquid foundation in check through the heat. I use setting spray every time I know I’ll be sporting a full face of makeup on a hot day, whether it be happy hour or even game day tailgates! Personally, my favorite brand is Urban Decay’s All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray ($32). Other popular favorites include MAC’s Prep & Prime Fix +($24), and for a cheaper fix NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray ($8) is always a good option. However, I have to say, Urban Decay’s All Nighter WILL change your life. I’ve used it for music festivals and clubs in addition to Happy Hour and tailgates, and this stuff is the real deal. To sum up my rant, setting spray is magical. Go out and grab some ASAP!! All of these products can be found at Ulta or Sephora.
2. Dry Shampoo
Girls if you are not familiar with this I have no idea how your hair has survived 18+ years on your head. A quick hack for keeping your sweat/oil from ruining your hair is to spray some dry shampoo on your roots after styling! My personal favorite is Big Sexy Hair’s Dry Shampoo($17.95), while some other popular choices are Psssst! Dry Shampoo Spray Original Scent ($7), or Batiste Dry Shampoo Fresh Scent ($7.99). Don’t forget to work it into your roots with your fingers so you don’t have any white spots leftover (your finger’s natural oils help blend the dry shampoo in)! Everything listed can also be found at Ulta or Sephora as well!
3. Lastly, breathable clothing.
This. Is. A. Must. Everybody wants to show off that bod they worked hard on all summer long, but it will do you no good to wear something extremely form-fitting only to completely sweat through it. In order to battle the heat of a frat pregame or a crowded bar, you have to work with the heat. My personal favorite look is a cute crop top paired with some flowy pants. You can find cute pairs at Dillard’s, Nordstrom’s (& Nordstrom’s Rack), Henri Girl, practically anywhere that keeps up with trends. Another good option is a skirt—denim or not! Wearing shorts or jeans hugs your legs tightly and traps the sweat inside, making for an uncomfortable situation. With a skirt, you’ll get that breeze just like with the flow pants! Pair your skirt with a bodysuit or a cute crop and you’re golden. Some cute destinations for skirts include PacSun, Free People, or even Goodwill! Lastly, an underrated trend: overalls. Check out my Big rocking a pair below!! Overalls are great because you look cool and casual, while staying breezy. Also they are ADORABLE and can be paired with a cute bralette or a simple cropped tank. My favorite pair is from the brand Madewell, but as overalls are becoming more popular you can snag a pair at pretty much any store in the mall. Goodwill also has some great vintage options!! Try some of these styles next Friday!
