With Seoul Fashion Week coming to an end, we decided to revisit one our favorite runway shows of the season.
If you watched Gucci's show in Milan Fashion Week ’18, you know exactly what we're talking about.
Gucci officially lost it's mind, or should I say head-- Things got extra freaky at Gucci’s Milan Fashion Week show in February when designer Alessandro Michele sent models down the runway carrying replicas of their own heads, an ensemble made to mimic the illusion of carrying a purse. The runway was designed to look like an operating room, featuring a surgery table and surgical lights. The uncanny similarities between the models and their fake heads is absolutely insane! The fake heads matched the models hair and even facial expression perfectly.
And right when I thought things couldn’t get any stranger, it did – Gucci’s creative director also sent models down the catwalk cradling baby dragons and snakes, and another had a third eye in the center of her forehead. According to Vogue, the heads were created in a partnership between Michele and a Rome-based visual and special effects developer called Makinarium. The company also designed the horns and third eyes that some of the models wore down the runway. Some of the models sported as well as the chameleon, little dragon and snakes a few of them carried. According to Vogue, It took over six months to create the pieces.
Creative director, Alessandro Michele, said the heads were intended to represent the struggle of finding your identity, and “ looking after your head and thoughts.” My jaw dropped to the ground when I saw pictures from Gucci’s collection at Milan Fashion Week. My Twitter feed blew up about this and #GucciFW18 was trending for two days following the show. I think it’s a safe bet to say that this is the most memorable collection seen at Milan Fashion Week in a long time.
