Escape The Heat: My Go To Summer Threads

6/22/2017

During the fall and spring semesters here at Florida State, I am usually can be found on campus in an oversized sorority sweatshirt, or a frat tank paired with a messy bun and a vanilla iced coffee in hand. Just like many of us who are just trying to make it through another week of papers, projects, and exams, I don’t have much of an opportunity to show case the fashion that fits my personality. It is difficult when
Picture
my time is split between the hours I spend stuck in Strozier, or at work, because outside of those many hours I am finding the time for my beauty rest and much needed TLC. With that said, since I am not taking classes this summer, I decided to take some ‘me’ time and explore the things that get me excited for the season, and fashion is definitely one of them.

I like to think that because I was born and raised in Miami, a lot of my favorite outfits tend to be flowy and beach friendly. If I had to pick a few words to describe my style, it would be enchanting, whimsical, and soft; think Free People. I have always said Free People is where my wallet goes to rest, though I still feel my happiest. This summer, I have spent much of my time in Free People’s “She Swings Slip,”. I now own the same slip in 4 different colors. This light weight lacy slip (pictured above,) has been in Free
People’s inventory for a while, yet I love how they’re always switching around the lace patterns and bringing in new colors for me to obsess over! How many is too many when it comes to owning a dress (or several for that matter,) that keep you calm and breezy in this Florida summer heat? The limit does not exist! At least in my book.

This spring, I wore the tea colored dress (as pictured above,) to a Greek Event, and wore the Red and Pink colored dress to a Girls Valentine’s Day party (shout out to my Galentines!). You can also spot me in this same dress in vibrant orange by the pool, and in black and grey by the beach. If you’re feeling inspired enough to give this versatile piece a try, beware!
If worn slip as a dress and not as a cover up, you will have to have a nude slip underneath because of the lace drapes on the body. I have rocked the slip with jean shorts, and a lacey bralette on a very hot Florida State Saturday which are usually dedicated to tailgating in the fall. I plan for it to make a comeback once football starts up again.

Free People started off their summer line with the campaign, “31 Days of Color,” which features their latest fashion in all colors that speak to the summer heat with lively energy. One of my favorites were the “Sun Up Mini Dress,” available in 3 different colors, (I will let you guys know if I decide to order these too,) a perfect dress to wear to brunch, the beach, or even to an early happy hour (pictured above, right). The way the ivory seeps into a cool blue allows for your eyes be drawn over the entire dress, detailing every inch of it. I am obsessed! Other pieces showcased in the campaign included whites, reds, and many fun patterns that fit perfect to the season and my bohemian style.
Picture
I will keep you updated with more pictures and details about the trends I am loving this summer as I have more time to explore around Tallahassee and online shopping. In the meantime, take my advice about lightweight and vibrant sundresses, I promise you’ll be just as surprised as I was! In fact, there is a way to eliminate summer heat while spending time outside of your favorite bikini. XOXO

7 Reasons Why EVERYONE Needs a Fur Vest This Fall

10/28/2015

Fur is an endless fashion trend that has been worn differently from generation to generation. Starting in the earliest days of history, fur was used as protective clothing but became popular in European fashion to show social stratification among royalty. The past two centuries in the United States and Europe, have thrown fashion designers and icons into a mad love affair with fur. The fur we come to appreciate now a days has ranged from classic Coco Chanel in her 1920s full-length mink coat to 1959 Marilyn Monroe in a white fur shawl to 2015 Kim Kardashian wearing a faux fur vest on the streets of LA. Fur is a classic that will likely never lose its touch.  So whether you choose to go old school and whip out your vintage mink, or decide to be environmentally friendly with a faux alternative, fur vests will always have a place in the fashion industry.

If the history lesson on fur wasn’t enough to persuade you, then here are more reasons as to why fur is a closet essential:

1. There a million ways to wear it
Whether with boyfriend jeans, leather leggings, a shift dress, the possibilities are endless

2. They supply your closet with a more luxurious outerwear piece

3. Rachel Zoe wears them. I repeat RACHEL ZOE wears them

4. It doesn’t matter whether your style is bohemian, hipster, or classic. Fur can be worn by anyone

From Cruella Deville to North West, anyone can pull it off

5. You will look 10 times chicer (and put together) than you probably are

6. THEY KEEP YOU WARM

7. They can be inexpensive
Faux fur vests are featured in many fast fashion stores (Forever 21, H&M, Zara)

You now have zero excuses as to why you don’t own a fur vest.

GAGA fashion in AHS: Hotel

10/25/2015

I have been watching this season reliigiously and (as always)  the cast, set and storyline as a whole is incredibly unique. I expected the costume design for Lady G to be incredibly outlandish, and trust me, it is. Her image as a whole is my favorite part of this season so far. AHS costume designer Lou Eyrich has collaborated with Gaga to create her timeless look.
Picture
The glove pictured above is designed by Michael Schmidt and made from Swarovski crystal.

The Countess is NOT Lady Gaga
"Most importantly, I want people to watch it and not feel like they're watching Lady Gaga, I'd like them to feel like they're watching The Countess. That's important to me, and I feel like I've spent a lot of time working on that"
Lady G has made it clear that her outfits are not to be provacative and are more than just shock value.        "Thats my art".
Every fashion choice she makes, she is thinking about the storyline and what best conveys the message. For example, she has chosen white versus black to appear more motherly in some scenes. Or has opted out of certain accessories and jackets because she felt it did not fit the scene.

What's your opinion on her theatrical looks?

The 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Adam Samberg, aired   September 20th and the Red Carpet did NOT disapoint.

Look how adorable Jessica Lange looks wearing a J Mendel gown and sunglasses!

"This was Lady Gaga's first time at the Emmys so we wanted her look to feel very classic"
- Sarah Nicole Tanno, makeup artist
Many of the stars broke both fashion barriers and their own stereotypes by donning something different.

EMMY SPOTLIGHT

Lady Gaga looked absolutley STUNNING
at the 2015 Emmys.
We all know Lady G is known for her outrageous red carpet looks. Remember the meat dress? The bubble dress?  We've grown accoustomed to the colourful wigs and insanely high heels. So when she stepped out on the carpet looking like this, she literally took my breathe away.
PictureLady Gaga wearing Brandon Maxwell
Gaga looks incredibly elegant in this simple Brandon Maxwell gown.

I love that she paired her platinum blonde hair and simple black dress with a soft, yet glamourous makeup look

that took
only 20 minutes to create.

Lady Gaga's look was by far my favorite. What were the hits and misses in your opinion? Checkout the slideshow below and let us know in the comments section!

Boyfriends Are The New Black

There is nothing better than when a trend comes along that is as comfortable as it is cute. It has become time for skinny jeans to be put on the back burner (although don't freak out, they're still cute!) so that boyfriend jeans can slowly make their ways into the closets and hearts of women everywhere. Contrary to popular belief, boyfriend jeans can be worn no matter the occasion (within reason). Trying just lay low and look casual? No problem, just throw on your fav sneakers with a pair and call it a day. Trying to look chic and put together? Slide on a crop top (or oversized sweater now that we're transitioning into Fall) with a pair of pumps and you might as well be walking down the runway.

Below are some of my favorite looks that can be created with the items in your closet you already have and your new favorite pair of boyfriend jeans:
Upload a picture to Instagram showing me how you style your boyfriend jeans and make sure to hash tag your picture #SoClutch.

Festival Fashion Finds

Fashion and music run parallel in importance and significance at huge music festivals such as Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Hangout Fest, and many more. When planning your outfits for these amazing multi-day concerts make sure to find unique pieces that stand out, but are also comfortable for long days outside and on your feet! Sunglasses, flowy tops, head pieces, bohemian accents, and layered jewelry are always "go to's" during this season. Below is a look book video I made during Music Midtown a few months ago where artists such as Lana Del Rey, Eminem, Bastille, Lorde, John Mayer and more preformed. The video features outfits my friend and I wore during the incredible, two day concert event in Atlanta, Georgia. Enjoy!

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week: Street Style

2/23/2015

Picture
With this past week being Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City, I deemed it appropriate to spend my time stalking the web for some street style. Not only do I love looking at the designer's fresh collections that just hit the runway, but I especially love looking at what models, bloggers, and socialites wear to the shows themselves.
Picture
TAILORED TWO PIECE:
Giovanna Battaglia (Fashion Editor of W Magazine) was spotted in this two piece striped top and skirt by Calvin Klein. The thing I love most about her outfit, other than the pattern, is the cut. The tailored and cropped fit of the blouse compliments the long skirt she paired with it. Also, her heel's dainty ankle ties add the perfect amount of femininity to her look.

Picture
GOING NUDE:
Olivia Palermo (socialite and model) sported neutral colors for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week this year by pairing a tan corduroy button up with a nude colored fringe skirt that cuts right before her ankles, both by Michael Kors. She compliments her outfit with neutral tone accessories and shoes as well.

Picture
SPORTY CHIC:
Margaret Zhang (stylist) sports a "varsity style" coat over a fitted crop top and high waisted trousers. This look is one of my personal favorites because Zhang incorporates the athletic trend, while still looking professional and put together.

Picture
BAD GAL:
Gigi Hadid steps out of the Diesel Black Gold show rockin' this all black ensemble. Hadid paired a studded, leather, motorcycle jacket along with a black blouse tucked into black jeans. Her accessories fit the all black theme as well, making the model look ultra slim and stylish. The girl in the background is taking notes.

Mixing and matching this River Island set with some black leather pants and a tight black crop top makes for a sexy and trendy Valentine's Day look... perfect for a night on the town or fancy dinner date.

Picture

This casual look is perfect for a romantic walk or picnic in the park with your loved one. Pairing any kind of festive pink sweater, shirt, or blouse makes for an effortless Valentine's Day look.

Picture
This outfit choice is probably my personal favorite. If you don't have any plans or a significant other, not to worry! Cuddling in some plush Victoria's Secret PJ's while watching the Notebook creates the ultimate relaxation. Also, soaking in a bath filled with this festive heart shaped bath bomb from Lush Also lighting a warm candle adds to the serenity. You're going to need some serious rest before you raid the 50% off candy aisles tomorrow!!!

Find your joy. Then do it. Be it. Live it.

Who said sporty brands such as Adidas and Nike have to strictly be for athletes? A new trend has emerged and it's awesome. If you're someone who likes to stay on trend and be comfortable at the same time...then lucky you! Adidas now sells cute, grungy tees that look absolutely perfect paired with black jeans, ripped up boyfriend jeans, or even just leggings. Comfort and style? Count me in.

Weekly Weakness - Free People Circle Tee

2/4/2015

Picture

Technically everything and anything from Free People could be considered a weekly weakness. This "We The Free Circle In The Sand Tee" is my current favorite shirt. You can pair this tee with virtually anything, dressing it up or down. Below are some outfits that I created with this tee, including an actual outfit that I wore with this tee in white!
Picture

Look 1 shows how you can wear this tee any day of the week, or everyday. Lets go with everyday. Wear this shirt everyday. Do it. It will change your life. I paired the shirt with some ripped boyfriend jeans and black Birkenstocks. You can wear this outfit to class, lunch, or even on a date! Throwing this shirt over classic leggings or any other style of pants could work while substituting the shoes for converse or vans can also create a comfy, yet stylish look!

Picture

Look 2 shows how you can wear this simple tee to a fancy event! Paired with a metallic maxi skirt and statement jewelry, this shirt can be dressed up to fit any occasion. This shirt is so comfy, I always find new ways to incorporate it into my outfits.

Here is Look 3 (aka yours truly in this Free People shirt). I went for a casual look, wearing the tee with ripped black shorts, a vest and Steve Madden combat boots. You can find more pictures of the look on my personal blog: www.adventuremeetsstyle.weebly.com

"Label Me"- The New Monogram

2/3/2015

Picture
Once reserved for newlyweds’ bath towels and cliché charm bracelet emblems, the monogram has emerged as a new symbol of cool. This bold proclamation of identity has newly entered the world of high fashion, and the style icons are going mad for it. What makes this new trend so fresh and exciting is that it is taking the tired, shopworn, usually corny concept of monogramming, and simply changing the location. Don’t wear your initials on your jewelry or stick them to your bedroom wall: Wear them on your clothes and sport them on your bags.

If you need some inspiration, these fashion addicts have got it down.

Even rebellious queen, Miley Cyrus shows off her personal name brand on an edgy satchel.

My advice? Just put your names out there.

Your own particular fashion sense is supposed to show off who you are right? Well if that's true, graphic tees are an absolute PERFECT way to show everyone a little bit about you.

Graphic tees can show off your sense of humor, an inspiring quote, or maybe even just your all time favorite band. The best part about graphic tees are that you can style them is so many different ways! This  creates a fresh, new look with every ensemble.
It's a timeless outfit, but it always looks super cute and casual! Pair your fav graphic tee with stylish, ripped jeans. If you want to dress up you t-shirt and jean combo, add a pair of heels like the Jeffery Campbell shoes below...they'll instantly add some sass to your look.

Classic Look: Jeans & a Tee

Picture

Classy Look: Skirt, Tee, & Heels

Picture
Who says you can't dress up a basic tee? Tuck in your statement tee into your favorite, comfy circle skirt and you'll instantly have a fancier outfit!
Try styling your different graphic tees in different ways, you'll be surprised with how many new outfits you can come up with!

#MyCalvins

1/16/2015

As far as sports bras go, Calvin Klein will always come first. There are two main designs: One style is extremely supportive and made with thicker material, which is ideal for keeping “the girls” secure while working out. This is especially helpful to those with larger chests. The other style is a thinner material that is so heavenly soft sometimes I have to check to make sure I’m still wearing it. I wear this style to work out in; however, I do think it is generally better used for daily wear and sleeping.
Picture
When you hear the words: “Calvin Klein”, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Most people would  likely answer underwear, or more specifically, the quintessential underwear models. Calvin Klein is a brand that has been extremely successful over the years with claiming ownership of select categories of clothing. In the 80’s it was jeans. Brooke Shields said, “My Calvins” and the world saw jeans. Nowadays, we’ve stripped off our jeans and when I say Calvins, you think underwear. Although the iconic gray boy shorts are undeniably fantastic, I believe that an alternative, yet similar, area of Calvin Klein deserves an equal amount of recognition.

If you do yourselves any fashion favors during this new year, exploring the Calvin Klein performance wear line should be one of them. Over the past month, I’ve become obsessed with their athletic pants and sports bras. Leave it to Calvin to design workout clothes that I opt to wear over a fabulous, full outfit. The pants and shorts are perfect to work out in because they are tight enough to stay in place, but also comfortable enough to move around in, restriction free. Even if you’re not headed to the gym, they act as a chic pair of leggings or lounge wear.
Picture
Picture

You may be thinking, is this girl really recommending I buy designer work out clothes? Yes, I am! Because guess what, they are not designer priced. I got all of mine from Macy’s for $40 at the most. That’s cheaper than the brands they sell at athletic stores, and it includes additional chicness, and an insane amount of comfort. I cannot stress enough how happy I am to have found these pieces. Buy yourselves an outfit, or fifty, and you’ll understand why you won’t catch me rocking much else.

2015's Color of the Year: Marsala

1/5/2015

2014 was all about the radiant orchid hue (okay...maybe don't because it's still super cute) and now we welcome 2015's effortless marsala shade that recently was crowned "color of the year" by Pantone. With the fresh, new year comes authentic styles, trends, outlooks, and even a new "IT" color! Marsala is a deep red wine shade, with brown undertones, that exudes earthiness and warmth.
Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, stated "this hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings, and interiors."  The best part about this shade is that it's a neutral color! While being understated, it still seems to stand out beautifully. Marsala is the absolute perfect, strong accent color against brighter, bold hues. Try out this new color trend in your makeup, clothes, nails, and home decor.

Utilizing Your Pieces

When shopping for clothes I often find myself thinking of at least a few different ways to style a particular item. If I'm able to come up with three unique outfits, using the same item, then I can justify purchasing the article of clothing because I know it'll become a staple piece in my closet.

Flannel button downs are HUGE this time of year and I'm here to show you how to style them three different ways...each outfit owning it's own vibe, creating a totally new look with just a few switches! Talk about getting a lot of great use out of just one item!

Look 1: Button Up Flannel
Try wearing your flannel in the most basic way, just buttoned up! Pair it with a great pair of combat boots, tights, a leather jacket, and a wide-brimmed hat. Now you'll instantly have an edgy, put together ensemble!
Picture
Look 2: Flannel Jacket
Try layering your flannel as jacket. Put it over another shirt or even a dress, for added warmth during these Fall months! This style looks super carefree, comfy, and of course...cute!
Picture
Look 3: Flannel Around the Waist
Try tying your flannel around your waist and pair it with a simple, basic tee for an edgy but still eye-catching look!
Picture
Living in Florida I fully understand that the weather is SUPER unpredictable so a flannel is a great piece to bring along in case it gets a little chilly. Have fun styling your flannel this season and even better...enjoy getting your money's worth out of just ONE piece!
