We all love to binge watch our favorite Netflix shows, whether it be Shameless, Stranger Things or whatever else is trending at the moment. But, in the depths of Netflix are rare and unique movies, which deserve to be watched just as much as everyone’s favorite – Gossip Girl. Personally, I am an indie film lover, so I have narrowed down some of the best independent movies on Netflix that will give you a break from the entertaining, yet basic Netflix shows.
First is Tallulah. This flick follows a dynamic young woman, Tallulah, and her free-spirited lifestyle on a mission to survive in a big city with no money. On one of her various odd jobs, she encounters a baby in the hands of an extremely affluent mother who is clearly stuck in her party ways and cannot possibly care for her baby. So, what does Tallulah do? She grabs the baby and runs. Do the cops catch her? Can she really raise a child? You’re going to have to watch the movie to find out what happens next!
If music is your thing, this one’s for you! Begin Again is a romantic comedy that follows Gretta, a musician in New York, as she experiences heartbreak and new relationships. The soundtrack adds the perfect element to make this movie captivating and different from all other romantic comedies!
Other People revolves around a struggling comedian who has to quit his job in order to take care of his sick mother. Yes, that sounds very depressing, but this film has some moments that are hilarious and definitely brighten the mood. This drama is for a night when you want to get in your feels, but also follow an interesting and amusing series of events.
What's Eating Gilbert Grape
Lastly, this one is a classic and if you haven’t seen it, you should drop what you’re doing and open Netflix right now. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, an American drama, was released in 1993 starring Leonardo DiCaprio AND Johnny Depp. Viewers will experience romance, heartbreak, excitement and closure all in one film. I won’t give too much away, but let’s just say DiCaprio earned his first Oscar nomination for his amazing performance in this film!
It’s time to give those typical TV shows a rest and delve into what Netflix has to offer!
