When shopping for clothes I often find myself thinking of at least a few different ways to style a particular item. If I'm able to come up with three unique outfits, using the same item, then I can justify purchasing the article of clothing because I know it'll become a staple piece in my closet.
Flannel button downs are HUGE this time of year and I'm here to show you how to style them three different ways...each outfit owning it's own vibe, creating a totally new look with just a few switches! Talk about getting a lot of great use out of just one item!
Look 1: Button Up Flannel
Try wearing your flannel in the most basic way, just buttoned up! Pair it with a great pair of combat boots, tights, a leather jacket, and a wide-brimmed hat. Now you'll instantly have an edgy, put together ensemble!
Look 2: Flannel Jacket
Try layering your flannel as jacket. Put it over another shirt or even a dress, for added warmth during these Fall months! This style looks super carefree, comfy, and of course...cute!
Look 3: Flannel Around the Waist
Try tying your flannel around your waist and pair it with a simple, basic tee for an edgy but still eye-catching look!
Living in Florida I fully understand that the weather is SUPER unpredictable so a flannel is a great piece to bring along in case it gets a little chilly. Have fun styling your flannel this season and even better...enjoy getting your money's worth out of just ONE piece!
Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham is the first book on this "Goodreads" list that you should get your hands on. Lena Dunham, the author, is not only a writer of many novels, but also the director and star of the HBO series "Girls". Dunham inspires the reader to tell their own story through her personal experiences and essays .
“A lot of us fear we don’t measure up beautywise and that we endure too much crummy treatment from men. On these topics, Dunham is funny, wise, and, yes, brave.”--Elle
#Girlboss, by Sophia Amoruso is currently the most popular read amongst this list. Sophia Amoruso, better known as the CEO of Nasty Gal, an eBay store gone multi million dollar shopping platform, tells her story about how she started out. Sophia collected vintage items found at thrift stores, sold them on eBay, and then became so popular that she was able to create an actual online store of all of her items. #Girlboss is a great go-to book if you're looking for some serious inspiration for career building.
"Amoruso's voice is accessible and charmingly self-deprecating without losing the effortless cool that characterizes her clothes, and her book is a D.I.Y. success manual written for women who were more prone to be voted "Most Unique" than "Most Likely to Succeed." --The New York Times Book Review - Erin Gloria Ryan
Following along the same theme as #Girlboss, comes a book by SNL's famous Tina Fey. Bossypants begins with the life of Tina Fey prior to her fame. She talks about her old jobs, advice, and people who help her get to where she is today. She shares personal moments in her life, including the birth of her first daughter and intimate moments with her husband. This book is hilarious and a light read! You could possibly skim over this book while you are getting that "tan" on the beach *insert instagram picture here*.
"Tina Fey’s new book Bossypants is short, messy, and impossibly funny (an apt description of the comedian herself). From her humble roots growing up in Pennsylvania to her days doing amateur improv in Chicago to her early sketches on Saturday Night Live, Fey gives us a fascinating glimpse behind the curtain of modern comedy with equal doses of wit, candor, and self-deprecation" --Amazon Best Books of the Month

I had to share the highlight of my winter break with all of you. A constant flow of creativity and inspiration lies within the walls of the Wynwood Art District, located in Miami, Florida. One of three homes of the annual Art Basel, Wynwood is also home to more than 70 galleries, as well as legally functioning as an outdoor display for street art since 2009. Wynwood, and places similar to it, are important for those who are bursting with creativity, and are in need of a place to share it. Wynwood recognizes the importance of creativity and expression. I really feel that more places like it should exist. I had the pleasure of witnessing work from artists such as Maya Hayuk and Miss Van, who were recently recognized by the Huffington Post early this September (see article here). If you ever find yourself in Miami, or South Florida, I highly recommend taking the trip to visit this place. I went three days in a row, I simply had to take it all in! Here's a little something that I put together to convince you to visit, in case I haven't done so already!
Kale is God's (green) gift to this green earth. It is packed with vitamins and folate, which aid in brain development (perfect for us college students!). There are many different kinds, and most types of kale tend to be bitter. Fortunately, there are milder forms, such as baby kale. If you're not a kale lover, or just new to the kale world, I would suggest substituting half of the amount that you add with spinach. I put a generous amount of kale into my smoothies because I prefer my smoothies to consist of mostly vegetables, to reduce to the amount of sugar I take in from fruits. Even though fruits also contain vitamins, most do tend to be high in sugar.
Packed with fiber to keep you full, and filled with antioxidants to keep you healthy, blueberries find their way into every smoothie of mine. They also contain less sugar than most fruits! Add about a 1/2 cup to your blender.
Raspberries are another fruit with a relatively low sugar content. They contain anti-inflammatory benefits, and also aid in regulating body weight by boosting metabolism! Add around a 1/2 cup to your blender.
Both packed with Vitamin C, pineapple and orange juice make perfect natural sweeteners, to mask the bitter kale taste. These components will be your best friend. They make healthy eating more tolerable since they are both so delicious! Add enough orange juice so that your smoothie is able to blend easily. In order to reduce the amount of sugar, I choose to add half orange juice and half water or almond milk. Roughly 1 cup of liquid should be enough to blend your smoothie, depending on how big you are making it. Top off with a handful (or less) of pineapple.
Last, but certainly not least: protein! Depending on what your health goals are, protein might not be necessary. If it is, then you need to research which kind is best for you and your goals. Different protein supplements can effect people differently (i.e. some are easier to digest than others) and it's important that you know which one will benefit you! For me, my goal is not to gain muscle mass, but rather keep my muscles lean and provide them with the protein that they are craving after a workout! I use 1 scoop of vanilla organic whey protein from my local grocery store. For this recipe, vanilla or unflavored protein is best to use in order to prevent distorting the taste of your smoothie!

Hands down my favorite sweaters I own are from J. Crew. The classic cut, quality, and style they bring to my wardrobe continues to make me swoon over every holiday collection, especially when I can find them on sale. Below are some of my favorite (affordable) sweaters from their line this year.
Pairing this wool-knit sweater with a classic red flannel underneath makes for an easy and warm holiday party look. Adding dark wash jeans or a festive sequin skirt completes the look.
A more "dressed down" version of this look can be created when the sweater is paired with cinched sweatpants or leggings. Perfect for lounging around on a cold snowy winter day.
The similarity in style of this sweater provides the same style options as above, but can also be worn with patent leather leggings and heels to dress it up.
A simple black vest and scarf thrown over this sweater creates a warmer more functional look for activities in the snow and cold weather.
Although these sweaters are patterned they can be styled in ways that look effortless and simplistic. Hopefully these ideas will help you create your own holiday looks this season!
Find your joy. Then do it. Be it. Live it.

As I flipped through the December issue, I came across a small section dedicated to one of my favorite, and widely neglected trends: slips. To be completely honest, I didn’t even know this was an accepted look until Vogue acknowledged it in print. Incidentally, is anything really acceptable until Vogue stamps it with approval? Looking at the photos of models and celebrities strutting down the streets of LA and New York in their sexy slip dresses caused me to feel incredibly smug, and simultaneously fashion forward. I recollected the night of which I wore a slip dress, paired with an overcoat, and strappy sandal heels. My friends laughed at my ridiculous boldness of wearing what is, fundamentally, lingerie, in public. But that’s me. When it comes to the conventionalism of clothing, I like to advise a counter move, a “Carrie Bradshaw” approach, if you will. Meaning, to try something different and utilize clothing to its fullest potential. I often ask myself, “Is it vogue?” In recent years, I’ve turned the acclaimed noun into an adjective. It serves to embody everything a person could want an outfit to be: chic, daring, and classic.
That brings me back to the brilliant resurrection of slip dresses. If simply seeing how classically chic these dresses are is not enough to convince you to leave your apartment in one, allow me to give you a few more invaluable reasons.
1.) The material. These dresses were originally made to wear under main dresses, or as sleepwear. For that reason, the fabric is usually amazing. Most of the time, it is meant to resemble silk.
2.) Slips are the perfect combination of comfortable and sexy. I think we can all agree that this is a fashion hybrid women strive to accomplish with every outfit.
3.) They are light. This is especially pertinent to us Florida girls. We all love the easiness of sundresses in the round-the-clock heat. The slip is like the sun dress’ cooler, sexier sister.
4.) When you come home from your night out, there’s no need to change.
Dressing up your slip is the key to making it work. Pair it with an overcoat, blazer, or another piece from your imaginative closet to give it a look of togetherness. Although, if you’re going for a look that’s bold and provocative, feel free to leave the cover-up at home. I believe that with this look, any shoes are fair game. However, I would strongly advice keeping the accessories to a Rachel Bilson minimum: put on all your desired accessories, then remove two, and… vogue.
Gifts for Guys
ALDO Redolfo Boots- I compliment every guy I see with shoes similar to these. Dress 'em up or dress 'em down, these shoes are perfect for all occasions during any season! Get them while they're on sale!!!
GoPro HERO4- Whether he's hitting the slopes or staying home with you this holiday, turn his memories into high definition with this little gadget! Compact, portable, and idiot-proof, the GoPro is the go-to gift for anyone.
Herschel Little America Backpack- I personally own this backpack... However, guys do tend to travel light. With a laptop compartment on the inside and a spacious pocket on the outside, your guy will have enough room for everything he needs! Help him travel easier (and trendier) with Herschel's Little America.
Beer Making Kit- College guys are all about affordable beer. This, however, usually causes them to sacrifice quality. Getting him the Brew Shop's Beer Making Kit will leave him with a delicious and quality drink. Not to mention something to be proud of when he gets to make it all on his own!
Gifts for Gals
Woolrich Felt Mill Slippers- I can speak on behalf of ladies everywhere: If you're not going to rub our feet, then at least keep them warm. If you help her stay toasty this winter with these Woolrich slippers, chances are you won't have to give as many foot rubs, because she won't want to take them off. Everybody wins!
MAC Viva Glam I- Some say that every girl needs a little black dress, but I say that every girl needs the perfect red lipstick, above all things! As an owner of many lipsticks, this MAC red is my absolute favorite shade. A deep red with a matte finish, Viva Glam I will have your girl smiling from ear to ear this holiday season.
Converse All-Star High Tops- (pictured in Cactus.) A second necessity, behind red lip stick, is a pair of Converse! Whether your girl is in the mood to wear boyfriend jeans or Norts, she will need a pair of these bad boys to complete her OOTD. Cute, comfy, and timeless; you can't go wrong with this purchase! They tend to run pretty large, so I recommend buying them a size smaller than her normal shoe size.
Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau so Fresh- Fragrances are always the most difficult gift to buy because every one has a different taste. However, Eau So Fresh by Marc Jacobs is sure to be a hit. Eau So Fresh is Daisy reincarnated into a brighter, lighter scent. Nordstrom notes it as "Exhilarating, bubbly [and] playful." I currently wear this scent, and always receive compliments on it! Snuggling up this winter will be even more enjoyable than it already is when your girl is wearing this!
